Writing a scientific article

You may not have any difficulty reading academic publications in English, but can you write articles with the same ease?

Target group

Our specialized training course Writing a Scientific Article is specifically geared toward PhD students who are writing their thesis in English, and to academics and researchers who wish to publish in an English-language journal. We would advise you only to register for this course if you have had some prior writing experience in English. The course is particularly useful if you are currently working on an article. Previous participants include researchers from VU University Amsterdam, Utrecht University and honours students from the AMC, the university hospital affiliated to the University of Amsterdam.

What will you learn?

This course will enable you to write a scientific article confidently in English. We adopt a top-down approach by first establishing the overall structure of the research paper, before editing the text paragraph by paragraph and finally at sentence level. As the course progresses, you will learn to improve your scientific writing skills step-by-step. Throughout the course, you will be required to submit three different sections of the article: the introduction, the methods and results section, and finally the discussion.
