Business English: Email and telephone skills

This course deals with email and telephone skills in combination, since an email often leads to a telephone conversation or vice versa. How do you ensure that the two forms of communication match seamlessly?

Email in English

The Email in English module focuses on improving your skills when it comes to writing English: you’ll soon be producing more varied and stylish emails with ease. You’ll practise by writing about familiar topics taken from your own professional setting, enabling you to put what you have learned into practice directly. The module covers the following components:

  • The best way to structure an email in English
  • Creating a clear and natural flow in your English emails
  • Useful phrases and sentences to start your text, create smooth transitions and finish on a polite and friendly note
  • Dealing with cultural differences (e.g. politeness and indirect communication)
  • Common mistakes and how to avoid them in your own emails
Telephone skills in English

In the Telephone skills in English module, the focus is firmly on your English speaking skills. How can you respond more effectively to questions and requests? What handy tips and tricks can you use to improve your phone conversations in English and how can you answer your customers in a friendly, polite and professional manner? The module covers the following components:

  • Expanding your active vocabulary
  • Improving your fluency: pronunciation, intelligibility and flow
  • Customer-friendly phone communication in English
  • Dealing with cultural differences: politeness in English
  • Role play: conducting professional and effective conversations
