In need of a refresher for spelling and grammar rules? This workshop will help you dot your i’s and cross your t’s in Dutch. After taking this fun and instructive refresher course, you’ll be fully up-to-speed on the main spelling rules, and you’ll know how to apply them effectively. Your letters, emails and reports will be blissfully free of pesky spelling errors and grammatical blunders.


Programme components

Flawless Dutch

You will practice recognizing and dealing with the pitfalls presented by the Dutch language:

  • Those pesky verbs conjugations: d’s and t’s: betaald or betaalt, word je or wordt je?
  • Spaces in compound nouns: management assistant or managementassistant?
  • The n interfix: krantebericht or krantenbericht, gedachtengang or gedachtegang
  • Hyphens: arbo-dienst or arbodienst, sms-en or sms’en?
  • English verbs: geappt or geappd, geleast or geleasd, hij deletete, hij deletede, hij deleette?
  • Capital and lowercase letters: Hoge Raad or hoge raad, minister or Minister?
  • Abbreviations: is it btw or BTW, adsl of ADSL?
  • Stumbling blocks: hen or hun, de reizigers wordt/worden verzocht, het bedrijf en haar/zijn medewerkers?
  • Dotting the i's and crossing the t's: commas, quotation marks, other punctuation.
